The Trilateral Forum on China-Japan-US Cooperation in the Liberalization of Trade and Investment in the Asia-Pacific Region,directed by the University of California's Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy (BRIE) in collaboration with the Dentsu Institute for Human Studies (DIHS), Japan and the Council of Policy and Strategy (CPS), PRC with the generous support of the United-States-Japan Foundation Summary Introduction In its second year, the Forum will meet in Berkeley, Nov. 11-12, 1997, to address finance and currency issues (including the current SE Asian crisis), problems of system friction (with a particular emphasis on China's mixed economy and its role in the liberalization process), and continuing US-Japan economic tensions. The following meeting in Tokyo will continue to explore policy options intended to avert or resolve conflicts in the trade liberalization process. In its final year, the Forum will meet in Beijing and Washington, DC, to examine sectoral implications of liberalization and test the policy recommendations developed in the first two years by applying them to specific sectors. |
